a bit of an update.

things have been crazy. things have been busy. i understand that it’s no excuse for my lack of blogging, but i guess that’s all i can say. the semester is over now! yay! no more school, no more class. i’m loving the break so far, but i’m not too sure what i’m going to do with all of this free time. the past two summers i’ve worked for an incredible camp company student life. i loved every minute that i spent with them doing ministry. this is what i think of when i reminisce on those long summer days: load-in/load-out. sweat. lawn mowers and weed eaters. worship. liberty university. camp food. reg day polos. face paint. penskes. 7th grade boys. staffers. my sister getting hit by a car. life friends. countless memories…too many to name. student life summers were such a great point in my life, and it was tough saying good-bye, but i can’t tell you how excited i am about what this summer will bring.

i’m still in the process of planning for africa. i just wish july would get here already. everything has been going really good so far. it’s a lot of work and i’m trying to stay organized through it all, but i have no complaints. i’m so overwhelmed by the amount of people who have been willing to give, pray and help support. i’m incredibly lucky to have people in my life who support my dreams and do whatever they can to help make it happen. it’s mind-blowing. people that i would have never imagined are pitching in and asking how they can help. i’m thankful to serve a God who knows my needs long before i do and is the greatest provider of all. He never fails and is always giving me new perspective. man. so thankful for that.
i’ve got an appointment next week to get some of my immunizations. eek. i have to get at least 5 shots, probably more. i don’t know how that’s going to go, but hopefully it’s not too painful. i will not cry. i will take it like a champ. that’s how i’ve been mentally preparing myself. maybe i’ll take some pictures for you all to see. get excited about that.
i’ve also been thinking through lessons for the english class that i’ll be teaching. that deserves a post in itself. i’ll do it later. promise.
on another note, i’m thinking about chopping all my hair off. random, but here is my reasoning:
1. i’ve always wanted to donate it to locks of love, and i think it finally meets the requirements.
2. it’s going to be stinkin’ hot in africa. something crazy like 120 degrees on some days. i just don’t think i need an added pound of hair weighing me down. my horse tail has gots to go.
3. cleanliness is key. i’ve heard horror stories about people getting lice when they go overseas. i want to keep that possibility to a minimum, and if that means cutting the tresses then i’m okay with that. i’m not okay with bugs jumping around on my head, no sir.
4. i need a change. my hair’s been long for a really long time, and i don’t know why but for some reason chopping it all off is kind of liberating. does that make me shallow? maybe. but i don’t care.
*another random thought. i’m currently obsessed with the Once soundtrack. i think they write songs about my life, and i can’t stop listening to it.
*i know many of you found this blog because of my trip this summer and i am so excited to share those thoughts with all of you, but it’s also my personal blog so you’ll probably get all the other life happenings/random thoughts as well. (that was the biggest run-on sentence ever. i’m ashamed to say that i will one day be an educator.) anyways, i hope that’s okay and  just think of it as a way of getting to know me…in a very distant way. 🙂
i would like to make the promise that i’ll be more consistent with this whole blog thing, but i’ve seen how successful i’ve been at keeping those promises in the past. not very. so let’s just say, until next time.

peace.

  • The Azams says:

    A long, long time ago…
    In Candy Cane…
Coming home from Student Life Camp…
Torre calmly says, “Alex, you have a huge bug in your hair.”
Alex, not so calmly…FREAKS OUT in the front seat!!! (Luckily Katy is always calm in these situations aka with the mouse at our house…and got the bug out for you)
So, you’ve already had a bug in your long locks, so just do it…CHOP IT!! 🙂
